UNCTAD/TrainForTrade celebrates the success of its project in Angola (14 December 2011)UNCTAD/TrainForTrade will celebrate the success of its project in Angola along with the private and public institutions that have collaborated since its inception in 2007. The project sought to strengthen Angola’s mastery of and participation in the globalised economy, thereby contributing to its economic growth and sustainable development. To that end, for the past 4 years UNCTAD/TrainForTrade has assisted the Angolan government in building a nationally owned training and capacity building framework in the field of international trade and investment. UNCTAD/TrainForTrade has provided training, policy recommendations and institutional support in the following areas (the project components): Trade Policies, Environment and Energy, Investment, Competition and Consumer Protection, Sustainable Tourism and Port Management. As part of the closing ceremonies, UNCTAD/TrainForTrade will hold its final official meeting with the National Steering Committee (composed of national counterparts from the public and private sector) in order to finalize the organization of subcommittees for each of the 6 project components. The subcommittees will be responsible for building on the framework put in place by the project and developing future training activities, thus ensuring sustainability and continued impact. TrainForTrade is UNCTAD's leading programme for training and capacity-building in the fields of international trade, trade-related services, investment, port management and sustainable tourism.
At the request of a government, the TrainForTrade team carries out a preliminary analysis of training needs in that country and submits a project document to address those needs. The launching of the project depends mostly on financial contributions from donors, but the country is also asked to share in the costs.
When the project starts, the team identifies potential local partners capable of becoming:
